So Bob calls me after we'd been shooting four days and says, 'You're a [bleep]ing lightweight! I've done 35 movies, what the [bleep] have you done?' I said, 'Well, Billy [Crystal] agrees with me.' He says, 'Billy's a [bleep]- ing lightweight, too!' All I could think was, 'Hey, 'Raging Bull' guy is yelling at me! I must be important!' But then I thought, alright, this is the test, week one, if I lose this argument I might as well just not direct the movie." Ramis says he won De Niro's trust by pointing out how smoothly the filming had been going up to that point. "Oh, and before he hung up, I said, 'I'm gonna forget that 'lightweight' thing,' " recalled Ramis. "And that was it, we never had another argument." The part went to Lisa Kudrow.[/quote]
